What CDOs can expect at World of Watson

In just a few short days, World of Watson will be in full swing once again, bringing the very best in speakers, demonstrations and networking opportunities with a cognitive flair. It’s a perfect opportunity for Chief Data Officers (CDOs) to learn about a variety of topics, ranging from more traditional data management solutions to what’s being created at the forefront of the cognitive edge.

Here are just a few examples of what CDOs can expect while attending the conference.

Peer-to-peer networking opportunities

An emphasis has been placed on creating opportunities for peer-to-peer networking for CDOs at this year’s conference. In addition to meeting like-minded professionals within presentations throughout the week, two additional opportunities for networking will be available. The first will occur on Monday evening. From 6:00 to 7:30 PM there will be an invitation only CDO networking reception at the RX Boiler Room Bar Lounge where CDOs can interact with each other and members of IBM’s Chief Data Office. There will also be a second opportunity to connect later in the week. During IBM Chairman Ginni Rometty’s Keynote on Wednesday, CDOs will have an area of reserved seating providing the opportunity to discuss the topic “A World With Watson” during the presentation.

Presentations by industry leaders

Of course, the highlight of World of Watson is often the hundreds of engaging presentations delivered throughout the week. This year again provides an amazing lineup of educational sessions delivered by experts. While it would be impossible to recap all of the exciting sessions here, a few particularly relevant to CDOs are worth mentioning.

  • http://www.seenews.info/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/cdo-wow_embed.jpgIBM Global Chief Data Officer, Dr. Inderpal Bhandari, will speak on Monday from 5:00 to 5:45 PM about pioneering a data strategy as a prerequisite to cognition on Level 2 of the Micro Theatre (Innovation Talk 4064).
  • Hilary Mason, founder of Fast Forward Labs, will also present a session titled “Making a Bet on Data Science in Your Business” in the Redefining Development Theater on Monday from 2:00 to 2:45 PM (Innovation Talk 4084).
  • A discussion of the latest Institute for Business Value Study, The Chief Data Officer Playbook: Creating a Game Plan to Sharpen Your Digital Edge, will be held on Monday from 11:00 to 11:45 AM in Breakers H (Session 3417A).

Make sure to put these three valuable conversations on your schedule!

Demonstrations of the latest technologies

CDOs will also want to pencil in time to visit the Cognitive Concourse, a place where they can go hands-on with interactive demos of cognitive technologies as well as more traditional data management or information integration and governance solutions. Guided tours of the demonstrations will be made available for CDOs so that they can be sure to see everything that might interest them. But that’s not all the Cognitive Concourse has to offer. Three CDO related talks will occur on Tuesday afternoon for 20 minutes apiece in the Monetizing Data Community Theater section of the Concourse. These discussions will cover topics such as CDO and CIO interaction (Session 4020), the IBM Global Chief Data Office (Session 4021), and the Ideal CDO Organization (Session 4022). Drop by and experience all that the Cognitive Concourse has to offer during any of the first three days of the conference.

Considerable thought has gone into crafting the CDO experience at World of Watson to make sure that practitioners will find considerable value during their time at the conference. Register today to take part or, if you already have your tickets, start building out your personalized conference agenda.
